The Arena 2012

HUZZAH! Once again, Howdy Stranger has been invited to compete in The Arena 2012, an improv tournament at The Creek and Cave in Long Island City! Prepare now to clap your hands and vote for us!

The Arena will run three times a month on Fridays at 8pm on the first, second and last Fridays of the month (Alternatively fifth Fridays). The tournament will begin on February 24th with the Finals .

The Old Switcharoo!

Change is in the air, and we’re smelling its sweet scent. Howdy Stranger is taking its talent off the stage and onto paper! Scripts are in the works and the group is thrilled to be working with director Dan Kowalski on their upcoming video projects. The team also welcomes writer and comedian Becky Yamamoto as their newest member. Stay tuned!

Champs of Summer Improv League!

Last night, Howdy Stranger took the championship title in the 2011 Summer Improv League. Six teams entered the tournament, competing in 10 minute match-ups over the course of five weeks. Each individual match-up contest was decided on a four-point rating system in four categories of rating (Craft and Comedy via Judge Rating and also by Popular Vote).

Workshops!

We ran a workshop this weekend to help prepare Bogota High School theater students for their upcoming improv competition. It was a crazy fun time! The participants picked it up quickly and performed some brilliant scenes. At one point, they all worked together to create a giant vending machine, then one of the boys ran from the back and jumped through the “slot” as a soda can. Hilarious!
